Additive Check

Know what is in your packaged food.

Photograph the front and back of a pack. Additive Check reads the label and explains the additives, allergens and nutrition in plain language, with warnings for the people you shop for.

In closed testing on Android. Not publicly available yet.

How it works

  1. Photograph the pack. A front, a back and a nutrition table photo are required, and you can add one more (a side panel, the date stamp). Take them with the camera or pick them from your gallery.
  2. The label is read. Additive Check reads the text in your photos and picks out the ingredients, additive codes, allergens, nutrition table and any printed dates.
  3. See the verdict and the reasons. Each product gets one of four ratings, Good pick, Okay sometimes, Eat less often or Best avoided, with the reasons behind it and how sure the reading is.
  4. Get warnings that fit the person. Add profiles for yourself and your family, and the result flags declared allergens and other points that matter for that person.

What you get

  • Additives explainedINS codes (the E numbers on Indian labels), preservatives, colours and flavours, in plain words.
  • Allergen flagsAllergens the label declares, matched against the allergies you set on a profile.
  • Nutrition at a glanceSugar, sodium, saturated fat and more, shown per 100 g or 100 ml so products compare fairly.
  • Label datesManufacture and expiry dates when they are printed and legible, shown with hedged wording when the reading is shaky.
  • Profiles for your householdUp to eight profiles, each with a name, an age group, allergies and health conditions you choose to add.
  • Your historyPast checks stay in your account so you can look them up again.

Built first for packaged foods sold in India, so it understands INS numbers and FSSAI-style labels.

What Additive Check is not

It reads the label. It does not test the food.

  • It explains what the pack declares. It cannot detect anything that is not on the label, and a photo is not a lab test.
  • It is not medical advice. Warnings about allergies and health conditions are general information, not a diagnosis, and not a replacement for your doctor or dietitian.
  • Photos can be misread. Check the pack itself when it matters, especially for allergies.
